Three WVFC legends

Legends return to lend a hand…

February 24, 2023

Our Under 9s have been boosted by the return of not one, nor two, but three Welford Victoria legends who have dropped by to lend a hand with coaching, either as a regular part of the coaching group or on an occasional basis when availability allows. (We now need to persuade them to find their boots when the Veterans play)

Martin Howells kept goal for Welford for many years, including – in very recent years – for the current Veterans team.

Martin responded to our recent appeal for more junior coaches and has kindly agreed to join the coaching team for the U9s group…

…as has Dave Concar – although with his oldest son a part of the group, how could he refuse? Dave and his brother Steve played for Welford in the early part of this century (a selection of words chosen with the express intention of making him feel old!)

And finally we were delighted to welcome back Steve Wood who played for the club in various youth age groups in the 1980s. Woody played for many teams in the county over the years, and currently runs an Under 18s team elsewhere, so it was fantastic of him to come to help us out this week before dashing off to coach his own team the same evening. He won’t be able to do that every week, sadly, but the door is always open to him when he is available.

If you’d like to get involved in any one of our teams or just helping the club out on a voluntary, no-obligation basis we’d be most grateful. Please do get in touch.
