A Welford squad of 13 found itself up against 2nd place Earls Barton Utd on a freezing cold afternoon up at Newlands Road. However, the weather didn’t put off the crowds and we had around 20 brave spectators that had wrapped up warm to come and watch the game.
Like the weather, Welford got off to a cold start. Very quickly Earls Barton took control of the game and started banging in the goals. The Welford midfielders had their hands full, especially with their number 10 who was a very good player. At half-time, Welford were 5-0 down although they remained in good spirits.
Earls Barton continued to play very well and dominated the second half. Welford did have a few half-chances although didn’t test their goalkeeper. The result could have been a double-digit loss, but Welford defended well and cleared at least 3 balls off the goal line.
Then, as you will see from the Facebook photo album linked at the bottom of this page, came the snow, which put a large smile on many of the players’ faces, with one of them trying his best to create a snow angel. All in all, it was a tough game for Welford but despite this the players kept their heads up and gave 100%. What more could any coach want?
