WVFC Sunday Adults 2-3 EMR FC Old Boys

November 28, 2021

Welford Victoria Sunday Adults looked to pick up where they left off last game but knew this week would be a much harder test against the league leaders. Welford looked the livelier of the sides at the start with some great football down played both sides, but regretted not making their superiority count when EMR took the lead against the run of play. High on confidence, EMR doubled their advantage not longer after with a free header at the back post from a corner, and then added a third before too long as well: a mix-up at the back gifting the visitors an unassailable-looking half-time lead.

Welford knew they had to go out in the second half and show more fight and determination and that’s exactly what they did, responding superbly to stand-in manager Simon Stevens’s half-time team talk. At around the hour mark Welford played a long ball over the top which Nathan Harris sprinted on to and slotted home, then 10 minutes later Dan Pridmore showed some class, trapping the ball neatly, beating two defenders and firing home.

With the deficit cut to one, Welford were on the front foot and launched attack after attack but were unable to find an equaliser so the match ended 2-3! Nonetheless it was a fantastic second half performance and Welford can take a huge amount of confidence from having given the runaway league leaders, who maintain their 100% record by the narrowest of margins, a real run for their money.
