On a cold windy day, Welford made the short journey over the border to take on their local rivals in North Kilworth who were flying high in the league and looking to inflict a fourth successive league defeat upon a depleted Welford side.
The game started with both teams struggling to find any rhythm to their game as conditions played a big part, yet both sides battled as hard against each other as they did the wind. North Kilworth took the lead after 25 minutes from a hopeful effort from 20 yards out which Welford’s make-shift goalkeeper unfortunately misjudged. With the half drawing to a close, Welford had a few chances but nothing clear cut.
Welford took their manager’s words of encouragement into the second half of the game and started to boss the early stages of the half. As momentum built, Welford equalised through Chris Foggin who took his chance really well against his former club in the 65th minute.
Welford huffed and puffed but ultimately could not find a winner. A special mention, though, must go to our captain Karl Stanley who completely dominated the midfield and controlled the game throughout. A great result in the end which stops the run of defeats.
