A Hallowe’en Horror Show put paid to the Veterans’s cup hopes for another year as they crashed to a heavy defeat against a talented and well-organised David Green United team.
Again missing their regular goalkeepers and with a number of attacking players unavailable through injury, manager Ben Green selected a fairly defensive line-up but, unfortunately, David Green United started sharpest and made the best of the challenging conditions, scoring two early goals before winning and converting a penalty. Two more goals were added before the break making it 0-5 at half time.
Some harsh words were shared at half time and, for a while, it had the desired effect. A much brighter Welford performance saw a period of pressure, a blocked shot and a couple of corners before a stunning long range effort made a dent in the arrears.
A stunning comeback wasn’t to be, however, and David Green United reasserted their authority with three further goals to secure a comfortable win and their passage into the next round.
