Summer charity donations top £1,700 after fun-run and match

August 26, 2023

Following one final pre-season intra-club friendly, from which players’ match fees totalling £144 will be donated to the Evelina London Children’s Charity, we are delighted and more than a little humbled that our fundraising for charities this summer has now exceeded £1,700.

Earlier this year we learned that one of our Veterans players, Jon, was running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in aid of the hospital that has cared for his daughter so brilliantly while she battles a very rare condition. A quarter of the proceeds from our fun day were donated to his fundraising (which has now topped £10,000) by the club in July, but the players across all three of our teams are striving to do more to support Jon’s effort, with two of his fellow Veterans having signed up to join him. The teams collectively decided that the final training session of pre-season would instead feature laps of the Sportsfield as a warm up, followed by a full length match. with fees and other donations donated to the Justgiving page of those team-mates (which are listed below if you would like to support them).

As always, it was a hugely enjoyable evening that eventually descended into a fairly light-hearted affair. The images our photographer has chosen represent the mood of the evening perfectly – a bit of decent football and a lot of smiles and laughter.

A look back at our previous news stories reminds us that we raised £150 for MIND back in May, and donated £1,406.25 to Hope Against Cancer and the Evelina London Children’s Charity from our fun day.

Vice Chair Joanna Foster summed up the culture of the club perfectly in her WhatsApp message announcing the total to our Committee. “One of the things I’m most proud of being part of this club is the ability we have to work together and do good things for good causes, whilst making a great environment for people to be in, get outside, keep fit and make friends”.

We couldn’t agree more, ma’am..!
