Welford Victoria Veterans began their Northamptonshire Sunday Combination season with a disappointing result, losing 0-4 at home to Higham Town Veterans.

Welford had to cope with the loss of their goalkeeper to injury but did well to trail by only one goal at the break. The enforced changes saw a number of players out of position going in to the second half and no ability to make changes as players tired. Eventually Higham Town’s pressure and possession told and they were good value for their win. Despite stubborn resistance, the game was decided by three late goals.
