After last week’s heavy league defeat, Welford wanted to hit back hard in the Northants County Cup and started out really well, playing great football and not letting the wind play too much of a part in the game. Chance after chance went begging, but it was Brafield who took the lead just before half-time despite huge appeals for offside from the Welford defence.
Conceding in such a manner at that time seemed to have a galvanising effect, though, as the second half was a different story. (That or an epic team-talk from the manager: we’ll allow you to decide, dear reader). After much pressing and some great play, Welford scored four goals in the space of fifteen minutes to make comfortable progress into the next round, despite finishing the game with ten men.
