On a windy day for football at Woodhouse Eaves a Welford side short on confidence and on key players gave a good account of themselves but ultimately ended up on the wrong end of a 3-0 score line.
Welford had actually looked the better side for the first 15 minutes, getting into a slick passing rhythm and looking to break the deadlock only to be caught out by a throw in that led to an unfortunate own-goal. Welford continued to battle for the rest of the first half but to no avail and they trailed to that single goal at the break.
The second half started off at a frantic pace; the home side capitalising and hitting a second just five minutes into the second half.
Chasing the game, Welford pushed hard but were caught out for a third time to end any hope of a comeback. The injuries to key, experienced players may be taking their toll on this young side, but they should nonetheless be proud of the effort they’re putting in and the glimpses of quality they are showing.
