St George Youth U16s 2-4 WVFC U16s

October 17, 2021

A full squad of 16 players and parents/careers travelled 40 minutes to Wotton to see
Welford secure a fantastic victory against very good opposition.

Welford got off to a flying start with Welford looking composed, keeping their formation, working hard, playing some excellent football and scoring their first within just 10 minutes.

At around 25 minutes Welford scored again to go 2-0 up before conceding just after the half-hour mark. No further goals in the first half meant that at the break it was 2-1 to Welford with all players in very good spirits and more substitutions made to ensure everybody had a game.

Welford started the 2nd half strongly with every player putting in 100% effort to maintain their advantage. The back four remained solid but were able to thank their goalkeeper for some excellent saves as well. Welford challenged for every ball and were rewarded with their third goal about ten minutes into the second half. Ten minutes after that St George hit back and from then on the game was very tight with both sides having opportunities to score.

Welford were playing some high quality football, completing slick passes and making some great runs. Carefully timed sub-rotation ensured the team kept their formation throughout the game and Welford scored a well-deserved fourth before the match was over.

A big thank you to all parents/careers that travelled to this game, to Michael for helping with the sub rotation and to Robin for running the line.
